Ellie's legs have always been crooked, made worse when she learned to walk at 25 months. We learned to live with this as investigations took place to see what could be done but in the meantime Ellie suffered a fracture to her right leg in 2005. She had a plaster cast on it for 6 weeks and upon removal of the cast we noticed that it had straightened the leg. I went to the surgeon to see why her legs couldn's always be that straight. He said it wouldnt always look that straight and within 3 days it had gone back to beeing crooked. We begged for help from professionals at Alderhey hospital but the surgeon is reluctant to perform the necessary operation because he says that Ellie would not be able to rehabilitate and cope with the resetting of her bones. We don't wish her to be left to get on with this for the rest of her life. Picture below shows her normal crooked leg and the nice and straight leg after the cast was removed. See, its possible! |
This is a picture from the front - notice how neat her little toes looked after the cast was removed. Her ankle is straighter and there is hardly any overbearing on her foot. |
This is what Belle's feet and legs look like today. We do not find it acceptable for her to live the rest of her life like this, in pain and unable to cover great lengths. You will note on the picture below this one that her hands are just as bendy and crooked. We would like to be able to get help to do something about this. |
